Please join us at this fundraiser to benefit Arlene Louise Shapiro, the beloved mother of The Park Players very own Phyllis Shapiro. Arlene suffered a stroke in February 2010 which left her in a vegetative state. She has been in a coma ever since this horrific event took place, but tries to make strides to come out of it. She responds to her daughter's voices and waves to them. Her coma is like a swimmer who comes out of the water for a little while kicking, paddling and swimming beautifully, but then dives back under the water again and can't hear or respond to you.  Her daughters would like her to come out of the coma completely. They found a wonderful researcher who is willing to help Arlene wake up. He has woken up 70 patients who have been in comas and he would like to help Arlene wake up too. In order to do this, Phyllis and her sister Cheryl need to raise a hundred thousand dollars to pay for the medications and other treatments that Arlene will be given.

The fundraiser will take place Saturday - August 14th at 7pm and Sunday - August 15th at 3pm at The Point Diner - 160 Bergen Boulevard, Fairview NJ. You will be entertained with a mosaic of singing, tap dancing, comedy and group medleys. There will be a small entertainment fee added to your bill per person as follows: $6 for adults, $5 for students and seniors & $3 for children under 7.

Arlene, who was a vivacious, creative, smart, wonderful, and enthusiastic person before this terrible thing happened to her would love you to come and enjoy this entertainment in her honor. Arlene has always been a fighter and with your help she will pull through and enrich, spread joy and touch people’s lives again. She is an educator, mother, artist, supervisor and wonderful human being. With your help she will come back to us stronger and full of life.

Her daughters are grateful for all of the support they have received and look forward to speaking, talking and sharing their lives with their mother again.
